the other day,my mom took us to film a sunset. It wasn't what you'd expect. We rolled up to the parking lot at HHS, where I thought we'd see a great view, and what was everywhere but rain?
Clouds misted the mountains and stifled the sun. We stayed inside the car, trying to film what we could through the windows as rain rolled down. It was definitely not what we had in mind. For whatever reason, the unexpected sunset reminded me of some things I've been thinking about lately. Spiritually, I've been trying to listen more to God and understand what he wants for my life. And while it is amazing to hear him, it also shows me--in ways that are hard to see--how desperately...behind I am. Like a kid who has to repeat fourth grade math. Reading stories in the Bible is awesome, but then you think, "How, God! How do I get from A to B? From not having faith to having faith?" It's an impossible equation. You feel so helpless when you remember how doubtful, unsteady, and afraid you are. But, as with the rainy sunset, there's something to remember. God works in small ways. The sunset wasn't what I had in mind. It wasn't a brilliant array of colors sinking into the horizon. But that doesn't mean it wasn't beautiful. After a few minutes, my sisters and I climbed out of the car and ran to the new tennis court. We saw our reflections shimmering on the floor, following us from upside down as we ran. Raindrops rolled down our coats. You can catch them if you stick out your tongue. Going home, lights blurred in a watery red, yellow and green, making Middle Valley Road feel like an alternate dimension on a Star Wars planet. Does a sunny day have that to say about itself? So when it comes to that question, the "How do I get from A to B?" question, I think the answer is one word: Trust. Even when things aren't working the way you expected--when you're not making leaps of faith no matter how much Bible time you did--still pay attention to God. He might be working in different ways than you plan. And don't forget, God works in small ways. If you listened and got a glass of water for someone, be glad! That isn't too small to be used by God. Just because you don't have the Grand Prophetic Calling in a dream doesn't mean God isn't working in amazing ways. A glass of water is a miracle. A rainy day is a miracle. And I'm glad God works our faith in small ways, because if He didn't, we might take the big things for granted. : ) 🌙 Priscilla

hello, everyone! So, I asked, and you answered: it looks like a lot of you are interested in fashion! Same here. Today I'm sharing a "Paris Fashion" aesthetic. "Paris Fashion," at least the way I think of it, means classic clothes, streamlined jewelry, and a general aesthetic of simple and sophisticated. I think of cobblestones, flute music, warm brown colors of fall, glass, pearls and marble...Did I tell you that I've been to France before? Paris Fashion is definitely a Classic look, and there's lots of variations, so it's a great choice for your personal style. Use the key pieces and experiment with your favorite accessories (or take inspo the ones I used). inspiration (image credits: Pinterest & TheCut) key pieces 1) white polo. The white top is the core of this outfit, and while a white dress shirt is useful for everything, a polo or t shirt can work, too. 2) jacket. Whether it's a blazer, cardigan, or leather jacket, it seems like a French trademark to wear one . Also, jackets are infinitely convenient in winter. Neutral colors--particularly black or brown--are preferable. 3) skirt. Anything from a neutral gray to brown to white will work. (Even an unobtrusive plaid?) Make sure it's not too distracting--it's more of a compliment. extras boots. Knee boots, ankle boots, combat boots...these go great with an outfit like this! Since I like to mix unexpected pieces, I decided on combat boots. It clashes with the prim French aesthetic, which I love. Accessories are the perfect way to add your own style to a predetermined outfit aesthetic--don't underestimate them! Hat. for me, a beret. I couldn't pass up the opportunity :D Jewelry. Simple silver jewelry goes well with this look. (Or gold). There's a ring, watch, and cuff. You don't have to wear them all at the same time, but the Paris aesthetic is "quality over quantity," so use some classic, timeless bracelets or watches. The simpler, the better! Nails. I did white nail polish. It is optional. You can also do French nails. (Braids, nails, hats--is there a look they don't own?) makeup + earrings You can change the mood of any outfit by focusing on ELF: "Ears, Lips, Feet." Since earrings and lipstick are 2/3 of that, here's some notes. Hair could be braided or loose. If it's braided...you could try a French braid? Ahhh, there's French everything! Earrings, like other accessories, might be simple. Pearl earrings, a silver cuff, or miniature dangles are great ideas. (For me, I tried all three. Earrings are a perfect way to infuse your personal style to an aesthetic look, so for me, I did asymmetrical earrings and an ear cuff. Plus cat earring. Because cats = awesome). Makeup: I experimented a bit with this! Like the photo in the "inspiration" gallery, I did a copper-brown blend for eyeshadow, mascara (curling eyelashes would be neat, too) and pink lipstick. I also darkened my eyebrows. For the eyes: Sweep a brownish color along your eyelid. Trace darker brown along the edges, where you would do eyeliner, and the crease. Blend it towards the edges. Finally, add a light colored highlighter to the middle of your eyelids, brow bone, and inner corners. Which Aesthetic or Style do you want to see next time? I can't wait to do more! stay inspired, priscilla 🌙 And that's it.
It's a New Year. Sometimes people say, "I blinked, and the year flew by!" I don't think any of us would say that about 2020. Still, hard years force us to think about our goals and what we really want. Hard years, more than any others, teach us. 2020 taught me to reconsider some goals. Do you ever get on a pattern where you coast through life, just doing your normal thing? Sometimes it's not always what's best for you--or even what you want to do. Let's say your alarm goes off. You roll over, turn on your phone, and browse Instagram. You nip food before breakfast and then don't feel like eating breakfast. Your self control is weakened, so you decide not to do a minor chore that could have been done. This might seem like an odd illustration, but it's the "coasting" pattern I'm talking about. When life gets busy, we follow patterns without asking ourselves why. We do things we don't want to do. Sooo, with that said, here are my New Year's Plans. (You should make some, too!)
Well, that is all for now. Stay inspired, and reach for your goals this year! What are your goals? 🌙priscilla ps-I'm taking another math class. But I have a feeling it's going to be more of a learning experience... |
