hello, everyone! So, I asked, and you answered: it looks like a lot of you are interested in fashion! Same here. Today I'm sharing a "Paris Fashion" aesthetic. "Paris Fashion," at least the way I think of it, means classic clothes, streamlined jewelry, and a general aesthetic of simple and sophisticated. I think of cobblestones, flute music, warm brown colors of fall, glass, pearls and marble...Did I tell you that I've been to France before? Paris Fashion is definitely a Classic look, and there's lots of variations, so it's a great choice for your personal style. Use the key pieces and experiment with your favorite accessories (or take inspo the ones I used). inspiration (image credits: Pinterest & TheCut) key pieces 1) white polo. The white top is the core of this outfit, and while a white dress shirt is useful for everything, a polo or t shirt can work, too. 2) jacket. Whether it's a blazer, cardigan, or leather jacket, it seems like a French trademark to wear one . Also, jackets are infinitely convenient in winter. Neutral colors--particularly black or brown--are preferable. 3) skirt. Anything from a neutral gray to brown to white will work. (Even an unobtrusive plaid?) Make sure it's not too distracting--it's more of a compliment. extras boots. Knee boots, ankle boots, combat boots...these go great with an outfit like this! Since I like to mix unexpected pieces, I decided on combat boots. It clashes with the prim French aesthetic, which I love. Accessories are the perfect way to add your own style to a predetermined outfit aesthetic--don't underestimate them! Hat. for me, a beret. I couldn't pass up the opportunity :D Jewelry. Simple silver jewelry goes well with this look. (Or gold). There's a ring, watch, and cuff. You don't have to wear them all at the same time, but the Paris aesthetic is "quality over quantity," so use some classic, timeless bracelets or watches. The simpler, the better! Nails. I did white nail polish. It is optional. You can also do French nails. (Braids, nails, hats--is there a look they don't own?) makeup + earrings You can change the mood of any outfit by focusing on ELF: "Ears, Lips, Feet." Since earrings and lipstick are 2/3 of that, here's some notes. Hair could be braided or loose. If it's braided...you could try a French braid? Ahhh, there's French everything! Earrings, like other accessories, might be simple. Pearl earrings, a silver cuff, or miniature dangles are great ideas. (For me, I tried all three. Earrings are a perfect way to infuse your personal style to an aesthetic look, so for me, I did asymmetrical earrings and an ear cuff. Plus cat earring. Because cats = awesome). Makeup: I experimented a bit with this! Like the photo in the "inspiration" gallery, I did a copper-brown blend for eyeshadow, mascara (curling eyelashes would be neat, too) and pink lipstick. I also darkened my eyebrows. For the eyes: Sweep a brownish color along your eyelid. Trace darker brown along the edges, where you would do eyeliner, and the crease. Blend it towards the edges. Finally, add a light colored highlighter to the middle of your eyelids, brow bone, and inner corners. Which Aesthetic or Style do you want to see next time? I can't wait to do more! stay inspired, priscilla 🌙

And that's it.
It's a New Year. Sometimes people say, "I blinked, and the year flew by!" I don't think any of us would say that about 2020. Still, hard years force us to think about our goals and what we really want. Hard years, more than any others, teach us. 2020 taught me to reconsider some goals. Do you ever get on a pattern where you coast through life, just doing your normal thing? Sometimes it's not always what's best for you--or even what you want to do. Let's say your alarm goes off. You roll over, turn on your phone, and browse Instagram. You nip food before breakfast and then don't feel like eating breakfast. Your self control is weakened, so you decide not to do a minor chore that could have been done. This might seem like an odd illustration, but it's the "coasting" pattern I'm talking about. When life gets busy, we follow patterns without asking ourselves why. We do things we don't want to do. Sooo, with that said, here are my New Year's Plans. (You should make some, too!)
Well, that is all for now. Stay inspired, and reach for your goals this year! What are your goals? 🌙priscilla ps-I'm taking another math class. But I have a feeling it's going to be more of a learning experience... It's been a whole year of St Lucia's Day!
Actually, I started observing it in 2017, when a friend of mine went to Sweden. I made Swedish meatballs for my family and we lit candles at dinner. He told me stories of hearing a choir in an ancient Swedish church for the holiday. None of that impacted me as much as a single photograph. A photographer I follow, Cameron Uilleam (make sure to look at his page) did a photoshoot of St. Lucia's Day. Those pictures alone stirred me to celebrate. I think it's a testament to how powerful images can be: the snowy forest with the lone girl inspired me to create my own art--and remember the holiday for years after. Art keeps memory alive. Photography preserves history, but also the stories within. On St. Lucia's Day, the darkest day of the year, I remember her story: a girl who visited Christians in caverns, carrying candles. The flickering lights danced with shadows on the cave walls. The flame might be tiny, held in the hand of a girl, but the hope it brought meant more. It doesn't take a great flame to light a dark place: small ones are enough. My mother celebrates a different holiday: Make Music Day, held on the Summer Solstice. This is the brightest day of the year. I'll include some photos from past Make Music Days below. With Make Music Day and St Lucia's Day, my artistic visions didn't quite come to life. Quarantine halted everything: St Lucia's plans and Make Music plans. Still, don't let canceled plans stop you from sharing your inspiration: perhaps it isn't a great flame, but it doesn't have to be. stay inspired + merry christmas! 🌙priscilla *drumroll please*
If you saw me hinting about announcements, today I reveal: I will be a photo assistant for my friend Chynasia! She owns Chynasia Photography, so be sure to follow her for some phenomenal photos! Honestly, she has insane talent. I haven't seen anyone with the same level of skill at her age. She's passionate, enthusiastic, and focused on getting the best photos possible. She did some for me; can't wait to post those! Chynasia makes photography fun and artistic, and I'm excited to learn more from her (I've learned so much already). Shooting at Greenway was a lot colder than it looked--my fingers felt numb after thirty minutes! 29 degrees, anyone? Still, it was great to see glittering frost and bare trees. It looks magical in the winter. Congratulations to the remaining yellow leaves; Tennessee impresses me with how long some of the leaves hold on to the trees. If I had a few words to describe our time, I'd say efferverscent, exciting and encouraging. All E's. It made us forget the cold (my fingers fumbling for the shutter release didn't forget, but I did). Next time I'm excited to do creative photos; be on the lookout for a winter photoshoot coming up. Thanks to all of you, by the way, who follow and read this even though I haven't posted on Instagram in almost a year!? I promise that will change soon! Classes are hopefully letting up a little (I only have one more to go before graduation!) so that means more time for photography, writing, and new projects! Stay inspired, and merry Christmas! 🌙priscilla Hello, everyone! I am so sorry for dissapearing this autumn, but I hope you had a great one. Mine was full of calculus, writing, and waking up at five am to run. However, I'm excited to be getting back into photography again. I have some exciting announcements coming up (hopefully this week!) but meantime MERRY CHRISTMAS and enjoy these studio photos from the other day.
Stay inspired! 🌙 priscilla Hello, everyone! I am back. Seems appropriate that "Sunrise" is the title for this one, right?
Of all the aesthetics--I definitely veer towards dramatic/classical aesthetics--this one might seem uncharacteristic. But there's two reasons it's not. Color. I haven't exactly been a fan of the "light and airy" aesthetic. It is beautiful, of course! Just not my style. When creating "Sunrise", I knew I wanted a bright look, but not a washed out look. The fact that sunrises themselves are full of light, but also vivid color, makes a way for that to happen. Bright feel, deep color. Inspiration. Different photos make you feel differently. While a lot of the Classic or Warm photos might make you feel relaxed or even sleepy (all the shadows!) Sunrise wakes you up. It keeps color, contrast, and a bright exterior. This is perfect for the type of photo inspiring you to do something. Sunrise highlights the subjects and the life in the picture. Instead of communicating a feeling or idea through the entire photo, it highlights a specific area of the photo. It's perfect for detail shots. Perhaps you might not find everything "coherent", but I hope this inspires you! I'm glad to be back with photos. As for the Sunrise Aeshetic, here's what reminds me of Sunrise:
Also, I want to let you all know I'm taking three classes this summer, so if I'm a little MIA--well, that's why. I'm looking forward to the next series, though: Theme. Theme should offer ideas of how you can use these aesthetics in a themed photoshoot. Don't worry if you don't get it now--Theme may take a little slower, but I'm hoping to do a Theme post for every aesthetic. If you have any ideas, comment below! Also, question: Do you like sunrises or sunsets better? 🌙 Priscilla Here is our next photo aesthetic--I've been pretty excited about this one. "Warm" reminds me of brown colors, fall, coffee...
But before I go into the photos (!) I want to let you know that I've been struggling with stress (especially on social media) lately. The injustice in this country grieves me. Post after post of anger. hate. anxiety. love is the only answer to this problem. Love never fails. if you are where I am, and feel helpless, remember the best thing you can do is love others. If social media is depressing you, I encourage you to take time off it. Social media says it is our only voice. That's not true. You can make a difference without constant time on social media. It's not cowardly or shameful to need a break. That's what I'm going to do--I'll be off Instagram this week. I'll work on photography, writing, and any way to love people I can, and I'd be happy to talk to you on text or email. If you're in the same place, and this is hard for you--I love you. ..... For the warm aesthetic, I think of comfort.
🌙 Priscilla Hello! Well, you all waited a week for the next installment...Sophisticated :P I had a bit more trouble with this one. Basically, what I think of when I think of Sophisticated is:
Annnd that is all for now!
🌙 priscilla Hello, everyone! Today I am (surprise!) launching a new series of photo inspiration from Priscilla Joy Photography!
When I think about a photoshoot, one of the first things I like to know is: What aesthetic? If the answer doesn't pop into your head immediately, no problem. I'm developing photo collages that represent four different "styles". The first style we have is Classic. ... Classic Aesthetic: When I think of "classic", I think of:
Do you like "Classic" aesthetic? Do you have a favorite photo? 🌙 priscilla I hope quarantine is going well for you. If it isn't, don't feel bad. It's getting hard--but I'm praying we'll have strength to push through. This is saving doctors and healthcare workers and even people's lives.
Last week, I did a "Rain" photoshoot because it was after it rained. (This was with my family, so social distancing guidelines followed, haha). I hope you like the photos! Here are some of my favorite things about rain. 1. It sounds so pleasant drumming on the roof. 2. Clouds create a beautiful light diffuser when you're taking photos! (like I did, below). 3. Chocolate chip cookies on a rainy day are the best. 4. Rain waters plants, so we can eat! Yay! If you're feeling lonely or tired of isolation right now, I want to remind you that even the rain exists because God cares. This video has wonderful tips on feeling better. Listening to encouraging music, praying, journaling, baking, exercising, or even watching the rain are all ways to feel better. There are so many beautiful things you can create--because you are beautiful. 🌙 Priscilla |
